Herman C. Statum; M.S., CPP, CFE, CHS-V, DABCHS; is a member of the Advisory Board at the World Institute for Security Enhancement. He is a nationally recognized authority on homeland security and serves as a member of the Executive Advisory Board of the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security. He is board certified in Homeland Security at the highest level (CHS-V), in Security Management as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP), and as a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). Mr. Statum has a Master of Science degree from the University of Southern California, is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and a graduate of the United Kingdom Joint Warfare Establishment.

As an Airborne, Ranger and Special Forces officer with a Top Secret security clearance, Mr. Statum’s military service included 11 years overseas with two years in Vietnam combat units.  He served as the Operations Officer for the International Police at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, and served as a Branch Chief at the Headquarters, Department of the Army Law Enforcement Division in The Pentagon.  At The Pentagon, Mr. Statum also served as the Executive Director of the Headquarters, Department of the Army Physical Security Review Board, which was the Army Secretary’s principal group for managing the continuous protection of personnel, facilities, data systems and weapons of mass destruction worldwide. He prepared information for responses to Congress and to state executives on sensitive enforcement and Homeland Security issues. In Washington, D.C., Mr. Statum later served as a senior consultant with the Booz-Allen and Hamilton Consulting Firm in the development of a comprehensive security system for the Navy’s newest TRIDENT nuclear submarine base.

Mr. Statum   served several years in various leadership positions in the 34,000-member American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS).  He was an ASIS faculty lecturer in certification review courses and assets protection courses presented nationwide.  He served on the Society’s international standing committees on Crime Prevention, Transportation Security, Healthcare Security, and the Ethical Standards Committee .  Mr. Statum created and presented the innovative Fema City and Titanville Emergency Planning workshops. He was commended in writing by the nation’s first Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for his vision and diligence in promoting understanding and cooperation between the Department of Defense, other government agencies and corporations involved in preparedness programs and emergency response operations. He served in the Washington, D.C. Chapter of ASIS as the Placement Chairman, Programs Chairman, Vice Chairman and Chapter Chairman where he guided the Chapter’s growth to over 1,000 ASIS members making it the Society’s largest chapter.  Mr. Statum was elected twice for consecutive three-year terms on the Board of Directors of the American Society for Industrial Security.  Within his six-year term, he also served as a Vice President of the Society and served as a Director on the Board of the ASIS Foundation.

In addition to his current active participation in the American Society for Industrial Security and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Mr. Statum’s other affiliations have included the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners and the International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security.  He is a life member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and a former member of the American  Correctional  Association.

He was recently awarded Diplomat status with the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security and the Certified in Homeland Security program in recognition for his many contributions to the program and to the security of the nation as a whole.
